We stopped by this new home in Bettendorf, Iowa to snap a few photos before it was all finished up. Village Home Stores is thankful to be the source for all the appliances, cabinetry, countertops, lighting, flooring, and wall tile in this new home from Aspen Homes of the Quad Cities. The finished spaces are sophisticated and contemporary with finishes that are sleek, bold, and graphic. A mix of warm birch woods, matte blacks, and brushed brass all vibe together so great. Some may describe it as Modern, others Midcentury-inspired, and many would label it contemporary. No matter what you call it, we just hope you enjoy a look around with us.
Birch, Black, White, and Brass Finishes
Like so many new homes, the layout is an open concept. Open-concept homes help create a more comfortable and spacious flow for use and harmony for finishes. Making sure every finish selected complements each other and the overall space can be a challenge. But not if you have the help of our team. In this case, a palette of warm birch woods, matte blacks, glossy whites, and brushed brass metals all team up to build a collective finished space.
Slab Door Kitchen Cabinets
The kitchen in this home features our Koch Classic Cabinetry line in a combination of the slab-style “Liberty” door for the perimeter and the “Savannah Shaker” door for the kitchen island. The island is a painted black finish and the main perimeter cabinetry of the kitchen is a birch wood stained with the “Briarwood” finish.
This stylish kitchen design is the perfect candidate for the Black Stainless Steel appliance finish from our Whirlpool line. Black stainless is now available in much of the Whirlpool line including refrigeration, microwaves, dish, and built-in wall ovens. The main focal wall of the kitchen is the symmetrical wall of cabinetry that bookends the cooking zone. A 30” freestanding gas range is at the center with full-width grates and a sleek black glass door design that compliments the kitchen style. Above it, a chimney-style range hood is installed over a tiled backsplash that reaches all the way to the ceiling.
Black Wall Tile
The kitchen backsplash is a dramatic matte black 3” x 12” tile. This MSC Chester tile is in the Matte Nero” color and installed using Jet Black grout and a soldier row vertical stack pattern. What a great way to add texture and interest to an open-concept kitchen. For more examples of patterns you can use with a long tile like this check out this glossy maroon backsplash or the same matte black tile installed in a horizontal brick set pattern here.
Another black wall tile sourced from Village Home Stores was used to surround the fireplace across the room from the kitchen. 12” x 24” Simply Modern tiles from our American Olean line are featured in the Simply Black color and using a black grout for install.
Floating Vinyl Plank Floors
One of the easiest ways to help flow many spaces into one connected, open concept is with your flooring surface. By selecting a floor that can be used throughout the main areas, you help keep the room(s) feeling larger and transitions to a minimum. In this home, the same floating vinyl plank floors were installed in the foyer, hallway, great room, kitchen, pantry, laundry, hall bathroom, and back foyer areas. This is our durable RigidCORE XL series in the RC913 “Natural” color. Lightwood floors continue to be bestsellers in many styles of new and remodeled homes.
Lighting For Your New Home
Village Home Stores also sourced the light fixtures for this new home. Above the kitchen island, hang two 12” pendant lights from our Crystorama line. They have an opaque shade and brass accents. Black and brass finishes make for a great complement to each other for fixtures, accessories, and furniture. There are countless options from many of our lighting lines including this Seagull Café vanity light in a satin bronze and black accent combination by Generation Lighting.
The bathrooms were also fitted with cabinets from Village. The primary bath includes the same combination as the kitchen using the Liberty slab door in a Birch Briarwood finish for the vanities at the center with tall pantry cabinets in the Savanah Shaker door painted black. The primary bathroom also includes another black tile surface. The Perpetuo series from our Daltile line is shown above on the floor in the 12” x 24” size. We also installed a hex tile from this same series as the tiled shower floor.
