In this post, we want to share two tiled shower stories from a new home built in Kewanee, Illinois. This home features cabinetry, countertops, flooring, tile, hardware, and lighting from Village Home Stores for Hazelwood Homes. We want to remind you that we aren’t just your kitchen and bathroom remodel experts; we are also your source for new home products. If you are considering building a home in or around the Quad Cities area, please make an appointment to learn about our bundle program and speak with experts in each of our departments. Working with one store under one roof saves you time and money. This new home has two great examples of tiled showers.
Shared Hallway Bathroom
We will begin in the shared hallway bath. In this bathroom, we included a furniture-style bathroom vanity from our Bertch Bath line. This is an “Interlude” sink table in a painted “Graphite” finish. Bertch Bath is a company that distributes all over the country but happens to be manufactured right down the road from us in Waterloo, Iowa. The vanity light in this bathroom is a mid-century modern-inspired fixture from our Capital line. Quartz countertops from our MSI line in “Arctic White” complete the vanity look. And right across from the vanity is a beautiful, tiled shower space.
The shower features a 48” x 48” Schluter shower pan with a curb and a waterproof membrane. The glass door entry has a fixed panel on the showerhead side and a hinged door on the other. The tiles for the shower wall are a 3” x 12” Modern Hearth tile from our Daltile line in the “White Ash” color.
The small curb at the shower entry is just enough to help keep water within the shower area and allow for easy entry without a large step into or out of the space. The bathroom floor tile is 12” x 24” tile in the same series and color as the shower walls. The shower floor tile is again from that same Modern Hearth series in the “White Ash,” but this time in a 2” x 4” size.
Selecting your bathroom tile is one step. The next step is deciding what pattern your installer will use to complete the project. The tile pattern used in this hall bath is known as a vertical stack, also referred to as a vertical soldier row. The floor of the shower is installed in a brick pattern. To learn more about your options for installation with a rectangle tile, check out this popular past blog post showcasing 10 subway tile patterns.
This 12” x 28” Schluter shower niche shelf is one of our most popular choices currently because it allows you so much shelf space. And the two shelves are recessed into the wall, so you keep the shower interior less crowded. We love the use of three sizes of tiles in this shared bathroom space for a neutral and stylish finished look.
Primary Bathroom
The primary bathroom in this new Kewanee home includes a bright and spacious layout with two furniture-style sink tables and a center storage area, including drawers and a wall cabinet that divides the space. The cabinetry is from our Wynnbrooke line in the Denali door and a White Oak wood with the “Coastal” stain applied. The same MSI “Arctic White” quartz is installed here that was used in the shared bathroom.
In the corner of the bathroom is a custom-tiled walk-in shower. The hinged glass door entry is set on an angle and opens to a spacious tiled shower with a bench along the back wall, and a rain shower head hangs right from the ceiling at the center. The matte black shower controls and an adjustable handheld shower fixture are right within reach.
A wall niche style so nice…we used it twice! Another double shelf niche is recessed here into the walls that are covered in a 12” x 24” tile from Daltile’s Perpetuo series in the “Brilliant White” color. The floor of the shower is a hexagon mosaic from the same series and color.
And speaking of tile, we just had to sneak in a picture of the hex tile floors for this primary bath. We have installed this matte black Daltile Bee Hive hex in so many homes recently. And don’t worry about the tile being cold to walk on because we have installed Schluter’s Detra-Heat heated flooring system beneath the hex tiles.
