Village Home Stores is not just your expert kitchen design source in the Quad Cities region, our team can also help with your bathrooms and home bars. We had so much to share with you about the kitchen in this home that we missed out on a chance to showcase some of the other spaces in the new home that we had products in. The bathrooms and the lower level bar area were also fitted with our Koch Classic Cabinetry line and quartz countertops from Village. With rich and trending finishes we wanted to give them some time in the spotlight.
Bathroom Cabinets from Village
Did you know that when you work with our cabinet design team, any of the doors and finishes you see can also be ordered for the bathroom vanities in your home? That means you are not limited to “standard” sizes or door/drawer layouts. You get to install exactly what you need. That means we can maximize storage for the given space using the full catalog of cabinet SKUs and add options to customize dimensions if needed. For example, this shared bath (below) can install as a full L-shape run of cabinetry and countertops instead of two small separate vanity cabinets.

This is the Bristol door from Koch in a Birch wood with the Almond stain applied. Almond is a medium-toned neutral stain option, and it looks great on all wood species. This bathroom uses a standard overlay cabinet. What does that mean? When the doors and drawers are closed and in place, there is still a visible gap surrounding each door and drawer front. They overlay onto their face frames just enough to close. When there is a minimal gap between these doors and drawers, that is considered full overlay. Selecting a standard overlay for some of the spaces in your home can be a great way to reduce your cabinet costs. The bar design we share later in this post is another example of a standard overlay design. To learn more about all of your cabinet overlay options at Village, watch this segment from our TV show that we posted to our YouTube channel.

The powder room vanity is a single cabinet unit with an open shelf below and a furniture style look. This is the Denali door in a Maple wood painted Pewter. We love the contrast of the Pewter painted vanity and Brushed Gold Hayworth series handles from our Jeffrey Alexander Hardware line. Pewter is a fantastic painted finish that can add a moody color to a space without going with a fully dark black paint.

When selecting your cabinetry from Village, each decision can impact your cabinet cost. Wood species, overlay, and finishes all come with % upcharges. These vary by the cost and your designer will help you unpack and explore your options. For example, a Birch wood costs less than a Cherry wood, so the % upcharges reflect that. The same is true for cabinet finishes. Most of Koch’s wiped and dye stains do not have an upcharge. Painted, antiqued, glazed, or highlighted finishes involve added steps so have varied upcharges.

When you work with Village your style and finish options are limitless…but so are your install options. Give the image above a second glance, that vanity is defying gravity! Floating cabinets have become a great new option for bathroom and living room installations. We often order “floating” style cabinets for bathrooms, fireplace surrounds, and dropzones. The look is great and functional making it super easy to clean the flooring surface below. In a living room or dropzone, you can even slide a basket storage bin, or dog bed underneath when styling the space.
Home Bars: Where Everybody Knows Your Name
Incorporating a home bar is very common in the Midwest as pleasant weather doesn’t always sync up with our ability to hang out and relax. Designing a home bar space indoors can be a great investment even if you don’t plan on using it as a “bar” all of the time. Including a wet bar layout in the lower level of a home takes a secondary living room space to a whole new level. Having a sink and refrigerator on hand with plenty of countertop space can give your home a functional second kitchen.

In this lower level we designed a single wall to include a bar sink, plenty of cabinet storage, a microwave drawer, and a full-size refrigerator for Kerkhoff Homes. Bookclub cocktails, Game night, Super Bowl party, Thanksgiving cousin hangout, or sleepover snack bar, the possibilities are endless.

The bar is installed in the same Bristol doorstyle as the kitchen upstairs, but in a new wood and shade. Birch wood in a rich Almond stain looks delicious and we included two wall cabinets with adjustable open shelves. The space can be used and styled so many ways.
Dark and Dramatic Quartz Counters
The open concept kitchen upstairs in this Bettendorf home was light and airy with white quartz counter surfaces. The remaining other spaces added a bit of drama to the countertop selections. Secondary spaces are a great opportunity to play with bolder finishes.

Want the look of a marble pattern… without the cost or upkeep? Quartz is always a great option. This dark and dramatic surface is from our MSI Q Quartz line. The soft black design with white veining is named Soapstone Metropolis. We love the pairing of matte black handle hardware and a complimenting tile backsplash for the bar. Ask a designer at Village Home Stores to see all the quartz surface samples available for your home.
