KitchenAid’s Multifunction Over the Range Flush Microwave with Air Fry

by Elizabeth Round | Village Home Stores

Village Home Stores now has access to many options for over-the-range microwave hoods. This category of cooking has seen so much exciting innovation in the last few years, and we are super excited about your options. We have invested in installing many of these new models in our showroom, and we just installed the newest flush mount, KMMF730P, from KitchenAid upstairs at the store.

A Microwave That’s an Oven An Oven That’s a Microwave

Don’t think of this as a microwave that kinda-sorta does some things like an oven… it’s more of an over-the-range oven that can also microwave. A single appliance that is designed to be a space-saver AND turn any kitchen into a double oven kitchen… without the price tag of a double oven kitchen layout. Watch this video to see what we mean:

Most kitchen layouts don’t have the available space (or the budget) to separate the microwave from the range hood. Because they combine two appliances in one, microwave hoods are a key element for many kitchen appliance packages sold by Village Home Stores. Over-the-range microwaves free up space on your countertop and give you the option to vent them to the exterior of your home or recirculate them back into the kitchen. And this option also gives you a built-in oven.

Air Fry Tray Included

What if you could eliminate the air fryer and/or toaster oven from your kitchen counter? It would free up some space, right? This multifunction appliance can truly replace the need to have other small appliances in your setup. There are air fry settings, AND the unit comes with a dishwasher-safe air fry basket so you can get crispy results without countertop clutter. Three heating elements and a fan circulate hot air around your items to crisp and brown without using oil. You also get a toasting pan and an oven rack (that can fit up to a 9” x 13” pan). Each setting you select tells you what tray works best and where to place it inside.

Oven Modes to Toast, Bake, Roast, and Broil

Remember, this is an oven that can also microwave, not the other way around. The interior can reach up to 450 degrees. We promise that each function is super easy to navigate. Once you select a category, your options begin to narrow down for you as you tap to tell the oven what you need. When you tap an option like “Toast” or “Melt/Soften,” you can select specifics to get the best results. You can also move finished items from your main oven over to this one and use the “Keep Warm Mode” to keep them at a low serving temperature for up to 60 minutes. This frees up the main oven space when you are preparing large meals.

There is even a “Dehydrate” mode that uses a heating element to remove moisture from meats, fruits, and veggies to a concentrated flavor. Or you can use the “Proof” mode to set the heating element and fan to circulate at a low heat to become a bread proofer that activates the yeast and helps gently rise your dough before baking.

Wait, Where’s The Turntable?!

Did you notice that with all the accessories included… there was no turntable? That’s right! This model is part of a new launch of microwaves that give you a turntable-free design using a hidden motor to circulate heat throughout the entire microwave. That means you get maximized cooking space. So go ahead and put the full casserole dish of leftovers in the microwave to reheat. Speaking of reheating, have you ever had something completely explode and splatter inside your microwave? Not anymore because this unit has a tiny infrared sensor inside in the top right hand corner. This sensor helps give the unit intuitive help to defrost foods (without cooking the edges) and smoothly melt things like chocolate (without scalding sections). The sensor monitors progress and adjusts cook time or temperature if needed to prevent foods from reaching the point of boiling over or splattering.

Integrated Thermometer

Did you not believe us when we said this was an oven? KitchenAid is so confident in this new oven that they included a digital thermometer feature like the one in their wall ovens and freestanding ranges. This tool stores neatly behind the door when not in use and plugs in easily to the inside of the unit. Using the integrated thermometer helps take the guesswork out of cooking meats and casseroles. You just plug it in, insert it into your food, and communicate with the controls what you are cooking. The probe will monitor the cooking progress and automatically turn off the oven when the right temperature is reached. Do you have a KitchenAid oven with a digital thermometer? They are super easy to use and give you amazing results! Watch this video to learn more.

Easy to Use. No Seriously!

Any new appliance may seem overwhelming when you go to use the controls. But trust us; these controls are designed to be as intuitive as possible and let you get to work with just a few taps. And don’t worry about all those words at the bottom of the unit. The text is all backlit, and most of the words will fade into the glass when the oven is not in use. This flush microwave hood is installed, plugged in, and set to demo mode in the showroom, so come and tap through the options and see for yourself. It is even WiFi capable, so you can remotely monitor food and set up voice commands with a Google Assist or Alexa device.

Ventilation For Your Cooking Zone

Even though this microwave unit sits back “flush” with the cabinets, the new design places the draw closer to your cooktop surface. Another important thing to note with this new design is that even though the microwaves are installed flush with the front of your surrounding cabinetry, the ventilation is still excellent.

The top panel of the microwave pops out and activates when you are cooking and then retracts when you are finished. And since we are in the business of installing beautiful cabinets, we should mention that because of the design of the vent, no airflow from the microwave vent affects the cabinet exterior above. And below the unit, you get a vent hood to draw and filter whatever smells and smoke from what you are creating below on the cooktop.

New Midland Kitchen Display

The microwave hood isn’t the only thing we upgraded in this corner of the showroom upstairs. We installed a whole new perimeter display showcasing our Midland Cabinetry line. Midland is our entry-level line that comes in all stock sizes and a lot of door/finish options. If you have been considering painting or refacing your existing cabinetry for a partial remodel, let us bid for replacement using this line. You will be delighted at the look and the price. This is the “Pioneer” door style painted “Shoji White” on the upper cabinets and tall pantry and “Maple Cashew” finish for the bases and floating shelves. The quartz countertop surfaces are one of our best-selling options from the MSI Q Quartz line named “Carrara Breve.” The wall tile is also by MSI. A 2” x 10” Taupesubway tile from the “Brickstone” series is installed in a vertical stack offset pattern. If you are curious about pattern options for rectangle tiles, check out this popular post of ours showcasing a top 10 list.
