Partial Remodel Quartz and Tile Kitchen Refresh in Moline, IL

by Elizabeth Round | Village Home Stores

This Moline, Illinois kitchen has got a whole new look… without a full gut and demo to get it. It is a perfect example of a partial remodel project with Village Home Stores with a refresh of new quartz counters and wall tile. The original oak cabinetry in the kitchen was solid and in great shape. The layout of the kitchen worked well for these customers, so we just help them make a few changes to make the kitchen vibe more with their personal style. New tops, tile, appliances, and some open shelving have breathed new life into the space.

Oak cabinetry is having a definate renaissance right now. The wood species in natural and medium toned finishes of the late-eighties and nineties are the stars of most viral spaces on social platforms. Influencers in the home design world are showcasing oak fixtures and furniture in every room of the house. Kitchens are no exception making this existing oak kitchen in Moline a prime candidate for a partial remodel. Keeping the cabinetry installed allowed for the budget to be spent on upgrading the surfaces and fixtures within.

First up, the countertop! So long “Bettendorf Beige” Formica laminate because Cambria Quartz has entered the chat!  Village Home Stores removed the original countertops and they were replaced with Cambria’s “Swanbridge” design in an classic Eased edge profile. Cambria Quartz is as durable as it is beautiful. Stain-resistant, heat-resistant, and scratch resistant. There are so many designs to select from in the Cambria line and a designer at Village will help you. Our team can also arrange for plumbers to disconnect the original kitchen sink for you and return after the new tops are in to install a new sink and faucet.

Subway tile is a classic and versatile wall surface option for your home project. This Quad Cities home didn’t have any wall tile in the kitchen originally. We installed the engineered quartz tops without a matching quart backsplash so that we would have the full 18” of space for a wall tile application in this refresh. A Soho subway tile in “Glossy White” is installed here in a “Horizontal Brick Set” or “Running Bond” pattern with a “Silver” grout line.

    Open Shelving in Kitchen

We did make one cabinet adjustment to the left of the kitchen sink to help give this oak kitchen a more current look. We removed a wall cabinet and installed some black brackets for the homeowner so that they could stain and install some open shelving on this wall. Floating shelves can be a wonderful place for storing and displaying items like seasonal décor as well as everyday dishes and glassware.
