You know that we love helping you with projects inside of your home, but did you know that Village Home Stores can provide products for your outdoor spaces as well? This serene backyard escape in Geneseo, Illinois, is a great example. Our customers wanted to create an outdoor living room/bar/kitchen area, and we were so thankful that they reached out for some products locally from us.
These clients hired an outdoor landscaping company and a local builder to create the backyard retreat, and we were able to be their source for countertop surfaces and an outdoor fan for it. Investing in outdoor areas for your home can be a wonderful opportunity to connect the outdoors to your interior space and provide added rooms to use at certain times of the year. This new space includes ceiling-mount space heaters and a fireplace, so we expect that it will get used well through fall and even into early winter.
Natural Stone Granite Counters for Your Outdoor Space
The countertops for the outdoor kitchen and bar area are a granite named "Black Space," and they have been installed in a brushed finish. That gives the slabs a more honed and naturally-occurring sheen in place of the high-gloss polished stone we often use indoors for kitchens or bathrooms.
"Natural stone is a wonderful choice for outdoor settings because it's exactly that… natural," says Jeff Bass from EPIC Stone LLC. "These stones are upwards of 500 million years old and have been subjected to all kinds of environments and everything Mother Nature can throw at them. Like with any material, different stones will age or weather differently in outdoor applications".
"Outdoor settings really aren't much different than indoors," Jeff adds. "Natural stones like granite still need to be sealed, and typically they will need to be re-sealed more frequently than in an indoor kitchen, as the sealer will begin to break down faster outdoors. Keep in mind that darker colors will absorb heat, so that should be considered when selecting, especially if the area is exposed to long periods of direct sunlight".
Most of the surfaces we installed in this Geneseo backyard are under the cover of the structure that was built to help frame in the space. This keeps the countertops (and anyone using them) covered from the sun and elements. There is even a TV in the soft-seating area of the patio. What a great place to hang out! What an amazing patio space with a bar, a kitchen, and an outdoor living room area. Outdoor living rooms, patios, and kitchens can be such an added value to your home and provide you with added usable space that you never had before. They truly can become an extension to the interior square footage of your home.
Outdoor-Rated Ceiling Fans
In addition to the countertop surfaces, we were able to provide a stylish ceiling fan fixture for the covered patio area. Outdoor fans can help to circulate air and keep bugs at bay. Fans are meant to be a useful fixture… but that doesn't mean they can't look great! We have hundreds of fan options that are "wet-rated" for outdoor applications.
If you are looking to upgrade your current outdoor space, or have one you are planning, be sure to ask one of the lighting experts at Village Home Stores about our options. This project was completed by many crews. The granite counters and lighting were from Village Home Stores. The granite tops were sourced locally at Epic Stone LLC and fabricated and installed by our friends at Surface Resource. The structure was built by Erdman Construction, and the landscaping was done by Greenspace QC.
