Mudrooms, storage lockers, and benches remain a common request from our cabinet department for both new homes and remodel projects. Our expert kitchen and bath designers can design the perfect layout for these needs using cabinets, paneling, and various trim pieces. Mudrooms can be a great place to add creative storage and keep clutter from entering the more formal spaces of a home. A well-designed mudroom can help wrangle items into cubbies and onto hooks. Home remodels typically require us to get extra creative with how to rework available space into a suitable mudroom layout and we love the challenge. New homes, however, can have the advantage of available space to be creative with. Many clients recently have requested another feature in their mudroom space: a dog wash station.
Yes, kids and spouses can be messy but so can our four-legged friends. Here is an example from a recent project we provided products for in Coal Valley, Illinois. This new home built by Gary Hodge includes a mudroom right at the entrance to the home from the garage. A mudroom bench area shares the wall with a shower pan and tiled walls set up for a dog wash station. The fixtures are set in place for standard shower use but the handheld sprayer can be removed from the bracket and used as needed.
Mudroom Must-Have: a Dog Wash Station
These washing stations don’t have to be specific to use just by your four-legged friends. There are a lot of uses for a drain and handheld sprayer in a mudroom setting. If you are active outdoors from farming, boating, hunting, etc. consider how nice it would be to rinse off your boots or other equipment here. Another tiled surface worth noting in this feature is the tiled fireplace surround. Tiled surrounds can make such a stylish impact on a space. The tile for this great room fireplace surround and hearth area (shown below) is from our New York series. The 4”x8” tiles are installed in the Greenwich Village color.
The new home needed a great room flooring surface that looks great, disguises everyday messes, and is durable. All those needs are met with our Paramount RigidCORE XL vinyl plank. This is the Keystone XL “Warm Gray” color. The range of warm grays within the planks makes it perfect for this busy household and it looks fantastic! Because the new home has such an open concept layout, keeping a consistent flooring surface helps to harmonize all the spaces together. This same flooring is used in the foyer, front study, the great room (shown below), kitchen, pantry dining area, and mudroom. It can also be found in the powder room, laundry room, and lower-level rec room bar.
Our flooring and tile surfaces team can help you select the perfect surface products for every room in your home.
