Did you know that Village Home Stores doesn’t just design and renovate kitchens and bathrooms? We can work on many other rooms in your home, including the laundry room. This recent laundry remodel in Colona, Illinois, turned out amazing, and we had to share the finished design with you.
Finishing out a laundry room space can be a wonderful way to improve your lifestyle at home. Sometimes, just adding more efficient storage or a hanging rack can make this necessary chore more enjoyable. Relocating a laundry room can also be a wonderful age-at-home investment for your household. If you don’t love carrying baskets up and down the stairs to the basement (who does love that anyway), why not convert a closet upstairs for laundry? Or perhaps add a washer and dryer in a master suite. Our Remodel Project Management team can help decide what may work for your layout.
In this home, the laundry is on the main level, located between the kitchen and the garage entry. Koch cabinets in the Prairie door and painted “Ivory” finish surround a pair of front-load Maytag laundry units. Each laundry appliance has been raised up onto a tiled platform to make loading and unloading easier. Just because it is a laundry room does not mean you need to install a utility sink. At the center of this design is a sinkbase with an apron-front farm sink. What an elevated look just with one item selection. Want to take a closer look around? Watch this short video tour we posted to our YouTube channel.
Isn’t that gorgeous? The paneled walls and fold-down drying rack are beautiful.
Wood Look Formica Counters
Did you notice the wood countertops? Gotcha! That isn’t real wood! Even in person, this laminate is a great wood surface dupe. This is a laminate top from Formica’s 180 FX series. “Wide Planked Walnut” is printed with digital tech using true-to-scale woodgrain patterns.
Laminate remains an excellent surface option for spaces like laundry rooms, home offices, and hobby rooms. If it has been a while since you peeked at Formica countertop options, you may want to check out the selection.
Maytag Front Load Laundry
Upgrading your washer and dryer units is a very important element for a dream laundry setup. The washer in this space has a huge capacity of 5.0 cu. ft. That is enough to fit 31 towels at once! The dryer brags a massive 7.3 cu. ft. This laundry pair also has “smart” connected capabilities so you can remotely start a load, avoid unnecessary service calls, and get notifications when the cycle is complete or when your pre-loaded detergent dispenser is running low. Have a small load that you need clean by the next morning? Don’t worry about babysitting your garments to move them over to the dryer; use the Overnight Wash + Dry Cycle! After a quick wash cycle, a fan and timed tumbling pattern circulated air through the unit, drying your garments (without heat) overnight and tumbling them enough to keep them from getting wrinkled. This cycle is PERFECT for households with busy sports schedules. Need tonight’s jersey for a game tomorrow morning? Toss it in for an Overnight Wash + Dry, and get some rest.
But wait, there’s more! This dependable laundry pair from Maytag also includes an extra option to select before starting a load. The “Extra Power” button boosts stain-fighting performance paired with any wash cycle by using two water temperatures to help dissolve stains. On the steam-enhanced dryer, the “Extra Power” option boosts the dry time when you have added thicker items. Have you ever pulled out a sweatshirt or a pair of jeans that still felt damp at the seams? The Extra Power option helps to get thicker fabrics, pockets, and seams dried the first time.
There is also a sanitize cycle on the dryer that uses extra-hot dry temps to remove 99.9% of common household bacteria. Antimicrobial SurfaceShield Fan/Light
Clean clothes, clean air, AND clean surfaces. All of that is achievable in this finished laundry room. We arranged for the electrician to install a fan/light from Broan NuTone that combines an antimicrobial light setting with a 110 CFM fan for a whole new level of disinfection tech in your home. This SurfaceShield unit will help keep countertops, wall surfaces, door hardware, toilet seats, sinks, and more much cleaner by keeping germs from lingering in the space. The Vyv antimicrobial light prevents bacteria and mold growth with just a flick of a switch, while a powerful and quiet fan removes pollutants from the room.
The fan/light unit has two light modes. You can use the white LED lighting mode for task lighting when the laundry room is in use. When you are done in the laundry room, then turn on the SurfaceShield switch and close the door for continuous antimicrobial mode. And don’t worry about energy use; this setting only costs about $4/year if you leave it on around the clock. This antimicrobial tech is trusted among many industries with strict standards to prevent bacteria and mold growth as well as germ spread. Learn more about this fan/light unit here on the Broan site.
Painted Farmhouse Tile
We couldn’t share this space without also mentioning the stunning tile selected for the floor. A gorgeous 6” x 6” tile from the Vincenzia Royale Collection of our Glazzio Tile line is laid as the flooring surface for this laundry room. What a perfect room for a playful pattern. This neutral colorway of the painted tile is subtle and stylish.
